What is a "book talk"? The simplest way to understand it is to read a few movie reviews. It's NOT a book report. There is nothing to turn in, but you may want to jot down some notes on an index card. You will be evaluated not only by me, but also by your peers. To ensure you have a captive audience, everyone will have a small checklist to complete for each presenter. To get an A, make sure you do the following:
- practice at home in front of a mirror or in front of your family
- tell us the title and the author
- tell us about the book: What is it about??
- tell us if the book won any awards (Caldecott and Newberry are 2 examples)
- speak loudly and clearly
- don't say distracting things like "um, like, you know"
- look at your audience (not your shoes)
- show us your book
- tell us how many stars you are giving your book (a great book would get 5 stars)
- if you enjoyed it, tell us what you liked (was it suspenseful, could you really connect with one of the characters, was it just plain interesting?)
- if you didn't like it, tell us why
- speak for between 1 and 2 minutes
- DON'T SPOIL THE ENDING!
In the event that we don't have school on your scheduled day or if I am absent, be prepared to do it the following day.
